The Noctuary legacy began in the summer of 1996. The release of the Where All Agony Prevails demo marked the first leg of this grand metallic journey. Raw, extreme, melodic, and darkness expressed the nature of the band member's collective sorrows, hatreds, and glory. Noctuary was exploring style that very few in the American underground had yet to be introduced to.
The next year was wrought with struggle and hardship. A short hiatus was taken in the early months and Noctuary was brought back to life by mid-spring; with only half of the original lineup remaining. By the end of the summer, only 1/4 of the original lineup remained. The fall marked the first negotiations with a startup record label offshoot of Dark Symphonies distribution called Blood, Fire, Death. Slated releases included Krieg's Rise of the Imperial Hordes, Century of Deception's Heic NoenuM Pax, and Noctuary's For Salvation...
Unfortunately, halfway through the recording of For Salvation... Blood, Fire, Death's funds were nearly depleted and they were unable to fulfill the original agreement. They spoke to other labels on our behalf. With their help we negotiated with Lost Disciple Records for two albums. For Salvation was finished in March of 1998, but due to many delays, it was not released until September of that year.
The subsequent years following the release of For Salvation... were, again, wrought with many hardships and challenges. Shows were canceled and the song writing process was delayed. A re-release of the original Where All Agony Prevails demo was in the works. Appearances on numerous compilations and tribute albums also helped to keep the Noctuary name alive.
In early 2000 the band began work on When Fires Breed Blood. The recording process began in May. It was finally released in November of 2000. In support for the album Noctuary scheduled two east coast dates, another appearance at the Milwaukee Metalfest, and an appearance in San Antonio, Texas at the cult sacrifice... fest in 2001.
